Latics for the title

So getting very excited about Oldham going up.
I have been geeking out about the respective upcoming games of the contenders.
Here's the analysis:

  • Oldham - easiest run in of the contenders. Only a handful of our remaining 15 games are against quality opposition, and all of those are at Boundary Park.
  • Scunthorpe - difficult run in. They are still in good form and have a few points cushion against their rivals.
  • Notts Forest - easy run in, very similar to Oldham's. NF's schedule is very nice in the last 6 games. If they can win the remaining head-head against Scunthorpe it might well be theirs.
  • Bristol City - tough - similar to Scunthorpe's. With FA Cup and Leyland final against Bristol Rovers (guaranteed red cards and suspensions), looks very tricky for them. Despite trouncing Oldham, their form is not as good as the rest.
  • Yeovil - awful run in. Looks like the only reason that they are a contender is that they have been picking cherries, while the rest of us have had tough schedules.
So, grounds for optimism.

January 2007

So I hope no-one bothered to believe me that I would become a power blogger.
Too lazy for that.

What news I hear you all cry?
Oldham Athletic 2nd in the table, still in the FA cup with a decent chance of making the last 16 and playing well.
Democrats win both houses of congress....hooray. The bad news of course is that now the Reps will be able to blame their 8 years of utter failure on 2 years of Democrats reigning in the neo-cons lunatic excesses.
My goal of reading 50 books in 2006 fell short, but I managed 40....which is not too shabby.
Playing footy for an indoor 6 a-side team called Mulligan. Aiming to shed the Chrimbo pounds.
Results to date:
4-3 win (goal for your's truly)
2-5 loss (ditto)
I'll keep posting scores (and maybe John Sheridan will stumble upon my blog and snap me up).

Lucas in fine form, we are in the process of choosing a pre-school for him. Should be
fun for him and a relief for his 'rents.

July 1st

So half a year has slipped by with no new posts.
What is going on?
Well busy watching the world cup (been pretty tepid, and the fact that all six previous winners of the world cup have made it to the final eight is a sign of stagnation).
Discovered some new board games that are very interesting.
In addition to the Gipf project games (Yinsh, Zertz in particular), traditional German-style games: Settlers of Catan, Euphrat and Tigris, and Carcassonne have all tickled my fancy in recent weeks.

Lucas is 2 and a half, sleeps reliably through the night, is making strides on the potty training, speaks pretty much intelligably (except when tired or upset) and is shaping up into a very nice kid (but he has his moments).

Only TV worth watching is The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Last night the secretary for the environment was on and said in answer to a question about global warming: "It's a hoax." I live in the only country in the world where lunatic dogma is allowed to trump scientific research and common sense.

Well, I'll try and get things moving here.
